Kyoto Semiconductor Conflict Minerals Policy

Kyoto Semiconductor Conflict Minerals Policy

Kyoto Semiconductor join many others with concern regarding serious human rights violations and environmental destruction occurring in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and adjoining countries. There are also concerns that the sale of columbite-tantalite (tantalum), cassiterite (tin), wolframite (tungsten) and gold (“3T & G”) mined in the region could be used to finance armed groups, sustaining conflicts.

International efforts to address these concerns include the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas (OECD Guidance), and Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act in the United States.

Given these circumstances, Kyoto Semiconductor is working diligently to avoid sourcing from the conflict areas. To support this effort, we are doing the following:

  • We request primary suppliers to be DRC conflict free.
  • We require primary suppliers to procure 3T&G from smelters that have been certified for due diligence by an independent private audit company audit program.
  • We implement due diligence measures for conflict-free mineral procurement.
  • We conduct conflict mineral surveys on related suppliers.
  • We verify due diligence information from suppliers.
  • The verification process includes corrective action management.
